Sarah Cameron Fancher signs scholarship with East Central CC

Long nights and even harder days paved the way for a stellar athlete to earn a chance of receiving a softball scholarship.
Warren Central High School’s Sarah Cameron Fancher signed to East Central Community College on Thursday where she was surrounded by her supporters.
“I loved the coaches and the community out there and it really seems like a place that I will fit in,” Fancher said. Just to have the opportunity to continue playing is a complete blessing.”
Introduced to softball by her stepfather at the age of eight, Fancher developed those skills that would eventually earn her a prominent role on the Lady Vikes softball team.
Fancher was a member of the 12U Vicksburg All-Star Team that represented Mississippi in the 2018 Little League Southwest Regional in Waco, Texas. That team also included Kayleigh Karel, Abigail Morgan, Jenn and Jill Smith, Mary Evelyn Hossley and Makayla Jackson. She also had the game winning hit and RBI in the elimination game against New Mexico. Those games were broadcast on the Longhorn Network and/or ESPN+.
Fancher stepped up heavily for WC over the last couple of years and she most recently helped them advance to the second round of the playoffs in 2023 (18-14 record). Beating top ranked Brandon in her junior year is one of the highlights of Fancher’s varsity career under former Head Coach Dana McGivney.
“We came in as a team and we finished as a team,” Fancher said. That night was full of memories and we proved how tough one family can be by sticking together.”
Fancher, who batted over .300 in each of her varsity years and started second baseman in undefeated(12-0) 2020 COVID season, mentioned that playing under McGivney was one of her best experiences.
“I loved every minute of it and I’ll never forget it,” Fancher said. “I was torn when I heard she was leaving but I’m happy for her because I know she’s happy.”
Fancher will finish her senior season under Head Coach Brian Ellis as she is set to help lead WC in February.
“Being a leader is something exciting to experience and I’ll always treat that with respect,” Fancher added.
Sarah Cameron says she will be majoring in kinesiology.
“I want to thank everyone who continues to support me especially my parents, all of my coaches and family and friends,” she added.
Fancher is the daughter of Tim and Stephanie Reeves and Robert Fancher.
