Shooting at Superior Crab leaves one injured; two in custody

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A woman was shot during an altercation inside the restroom of Superior Crab restaurant around 7 p.m. Monday evening, according to Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones.
Jones said she was dining with friends at the restaurant on Cinco de Mayo, celebrating a friend’s 30 years of service, when the shooting occurred.
“In the midst of what should have been a joyful evening, an altercation broke out in the ladies’ restroom involving three women,” Jones said in a statement on the Vicksburg Police Department’s Facebook page. “Tragically, one of the individuals involved discharged a firearm, striking another female in the lower part of her body.”
During the preliminary investigation, the victim told officers that she had an ongoing feud with one of the suspects. She said the two were involved in a physical fight this past weekend at another local business. One of the suspects is reportedly a resident of Tallulah, Louisiana.
“This incident saddens me deeply,” Jones said. “It is heartbreaking to witness such a lack of respect for life, for one another, and for authority. Violence should never be the answer.”
Jones added that although no city is immune to crime, the Vicksburg Police Department responded quickly.
“Two females are currently in custody and are facing charges of aggravated assault,” she said. “Our department continues to review video footage and gather all relevant evidence as part of our ongoing investigation.”
Jones asked for prayers for the victim’s recovery and encouraged citizens to seek peace in moments of conflict.
“Let us be reminded of the importance of unity, patience, and seeking peaceful resolutions to our differences,” she said. “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
As we move forward, I ask for prayers for the victim’s recovery and for continued peace in our city. Let us be reminded of the importance of unity, patience, and seeking peaceful resolutions to our differences,” said Jones. “I leave you with this scripture:“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” ~ Romans 12:21. Let us commit to being the good that overcomes evil. Together, we can build a stronger, safer Vicksburg.”
