Vicksburg native Alexus Stirgus has been named the new Head Girls’ Basketball Coach at Fort Scott Community College.

Stirgus, who spent the last few seasons as an assistant coach at Southern Arkansas University, confirmed her hiring to VDN on Tuesday.

Stirgus made a great name for herself by training local athletes around Vicksburg before heading out of state.

Back in 2010, Stirgus was the star player at Vicksburg High School where she led the Missy Gators to a 16-9 season. She went on to lead Copiah-Lincoln Community College to a state title before playing at Mississippi College where she averaged 12.2 points per game.

Before coaching at Southern Arkansas, Stirgus coached at Clinton High School and MC. Overall, she has helped many athletes reach their full potential in the game of basketball and Stirgus now has the opportunity to have full control over her own program.

VDN will keep everyone updated on Stirgus’ success as she takes on this new adventure.
