Vicksburg-Leake Central Game Suspended After Stadium Lights Go Out

Game Suspended Due to Lighting Issues
Vicksburg High School’s football game against Leake Central was suspended Friday night after the stadium lights went out with six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Gators were trailing 34-18 when the lights went completely out, forcing the remainder of the game to be finished at a later date.
Impact on Vicksburg’s Comeback Effort
Leake Central controlled much of the first half. The Gators began to find life offensively late in the second quarter before cutting into the deficit in the second half.
Leake Central opened the scoring with a 61-yard drive that ended with a short touchdown pass for a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.
LC put together another long possession shortly afterward, driving 51 yards before scoring on a touchdown run to extend its lead to 12-0 with one minute remaining in the first quarter.
Just before the end of the quarter, Leake Central’s Kentrell Hutchinson returned an interception 14 yards for a touchdown. Davian Townsend converted the 2-point attempt to give LC a 20-0 advantage.
Vicksburg made a change at quarterback, switching from Jordan Clay to TJ Selvy. Selvy immediately provided a spark by connecting with Jayden Stewart for a long pass late in the first quarter. Selvy later found Daylen Atkins for what appeared to be a touchdown, but the score was called back because of a penalty.
Leake Central added another touchdown early in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead.
VHS continued trying to move the ball through the air, but Selvy was intercepted. Leake Central eventually capitalized again and extended its advantage to 34-0.
The Gators finally began gaining momentum late in the first half. Selvy connected with Atkins for a long completion to move VHS down the field, while Clay also came up with a key reception during the drive.
Just before halftime, Selvy found Jaquez Jones for a 60-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 34-6.
Vicksburg’s comeback effort gained more momentum late in the third quarter. Deveyon Beard blocked a punt and returned it to the Leake Central 1-yard line. Rico Thomas followed with a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 34-12.
The Gators continued to fight back in the fourth quarter. Selvy connected with Jones for another long completion before throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Atkins, cutting Leake Central’s lead to 34-18.
VHS still had six minutes remaining to continue its comeback attempt when the stadium lights went completely out. The outage forced officials to suspend play, with the remainder of the game set to be completed at a later date.
