Summit Officer Killed in the Line Of Duty
SUMMIT, Miss. – A Summit Police Officer has died after an incident involving a shooting at a checkpoint near West Railroad Avenue on August 8.
Gov. Tate Reeves identified the slain officer as Troy Floyd in a social media post.
Officers with the Summit Police Department were working a checkpoint near West Railroad Avenue when a car approached and a passenger subject presented a weapon towards the officers, striking one Summit police officer causing fatal injuries. Two additional McComb police officers arrived in the area and encountered the subject engaging in an exchange of gunfire. Both officers received non-life threatening injuries in the exchange and the subject received fatal injuries. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office
