Two separate child abuse cases set for December term
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Two separate child abuse cases are scheduled for trial in Warren County during the December 8 term, according to court records.
Alveyteen Alexander has been indicted on one count of child abuse and one count of child neglect. She is accused of intentionally starving a child. Unless she enters a guilty plea beforehand, her case will proceed to trial in December. Alexander is being represented by defense attorney Noah Drake. Assistant District Attorney Branan Southerland will prosecute the case on behalf of the state.
In a separate case, Victor Jones and Emily Lelonek have also been indicted in connection with the alleged abuse of a 2-month-old child. Their trials are set for the same December term. Details surrounding the specifics of the alleged abuse have not been publicly released.
Under Mississippi law, a conviction for child abuse can result in a maximum life sentence, while child neglect carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
