Vicksburg Assistant Fire Chief Carl Carson Retires After 34 Years of Service
VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Vicksburg Fire Department’s Assistant Chief Carl Carson clocked out for the last time this morning, after 34 years. The Vicksburg Fire Department announced his retirement yesterday.
Carson, from Utica, Mississippi, joined the Vicksburg Fire Department in 1990 after a close friend talked him into it.
“I had no idea I would be here this long, but once I got into the service, the love of people kept me here,” Carson said in an interview with the Vicksburg Daily News in 2020.
“I want to congratulate Assistant Chief Carl Carson on achieving the remarkable milestone of 34 years of dedicated service with the Vicksburg Fire Department,” Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps. “His extensive career has been a testament to unwavering commitment, exceptional professionalism, and inspiring leadership. Chief Carson’s influence has been profound, leaving a lasting impact on our community and the countless individuals whose lives he has touched through his service.”
Stamps also said that it has been an honor and a privilege to work alongside him.
“I have witnessed firsthand his passion for helping others and his ability to lead with integrity and compassion. As he embarks on this exciting new chapter of his life—embracing retirement—I sincerely wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” said Stamps. “Thank you, Chief Carson, for your outstanding service and the positive mark you left on so many. Your legacy will surely resonate within our community for years to come!”
In the same 2020 VDN interview, Carson was asked what his plans would be when he finally retired.
“When that comes, I can’t wait to spend time with my wife, kids and grandkids,” Carson said. “They are my inspiration.”
Here’s to some long over due time with your family, Chief Carson.
