Vicksburg Civil War Museum to host ‘Taste of History’ night featuring Jordan Rushing
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg Civil War Museum will host a special “Taste of History” event featuring a presentation by Jordan Rushing, director of the Old Courthouse Museum, on Friday, Aug. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Titled The Booming 1890s on Washington Street, the presentation will explore a pivotal era in Vicksburg’s post-Civil War development, focusing on the commercial success of Washington Street and the forces that transformed it over time.
Rushing will discuss the economic and social factors that turned Washington Street into a thriving business district in the 1890s — and the shifts that led to its eventual decline.
“We are thrilled to host Jordan Rushing for what promises to be a fascinating exploration of Vicksburg’s dynamic history,” said Charles Pendleton, director of the Vicksburg Civil War Museum. “This event is a wonderful opportunity for our community to connect with our past in an engaging and enjoyable setting — understanding the forces that shaped our city beyond the Civil War era.”
Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be available during the event. The program is part of the museum’s ongoing effort to present educational events that engage both history enthusiasts and the broader community.
Tickets are $20 per person. Seating is limited, and advance reservations are strongly encouraged. For reservations or more information, call 601-218-5526 or 601-738-8665. Press passes are available upon request.
The Vicksburg Civil War Museum is located at 1123 Washington St. in downtown Vicksburg.
