Vicksburg man missing since last Monday from towboat near Dyersburg, TN
VICKSBURG, MS. – A Vicksburg man, Treyvon Thomas, has been missing since early last Monday morning. He was a crew member of a tow barge, Big J.O., with the Yazoo River Towing Company. The barge was traveling up river and was near Dyersburg, Tennessee at the time of his disappearance.
According to a source close to Thomas, around 4 a.m. on the morning of August 26, Thomas and one other crew member were preparing breakfast for the day when Thomas stepped outside to take out the trash and for a smoke break. He was reported missing twenty minutes later, and the alarm bells were rung. The Coast Guard was contacted roughly an hour and a half later.
As of this writing, a search and rescue attempt was made in the waters surrounding the area by the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency, but no body has been recovered.
Vicksburg Daily News has made repeated attempts to contact Tennessee officials, including the Dyersburg Police Department, but has so far not received any additional information.
