Vicksburg’s Nathaniel Williams Wins 2024 AARP Andrus Award
VICKSBURG, Miss. – Nathaniel Williams received the 2024 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service. He was presented with the honor at the AARP Mississippi Volunteer Appreciation Banquet on November 9, 2024. Mr. Williams was recognized for his volunteer service and for helping people, both young and old, in his community.
Williams grew up in Vicksburg and is known for his kindness and volunteer work in the community. Over the years, Williams has volunteered in different organizations such as Vicksburg Family Development, Red Cross, and the RiverFest. He is also a choir director at several local churches and attends Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Williams’ volunteer work started out many years ago as he coached his son’s youth football team. For the past 33 years, has been working with kids at the Vicksburg YMCA where he is a referee.
“I like working with the kids and helping them learn the fundamentals of the game, especially when it comes to basketball and football,” Williams said in an earlier interview.
The 2024 Andrus Award for Community Service, the association’s most prestigious volunteer tribute, recognizes outstanding individuals age 50 and older who are sharing their experience, talents and skills to enrich the lives of others.
Nathaniel Williams is an Army Veteran and a graduate of Jackson State University.
