Vicksburg, Miss.-Warren Central High School football team advances to the second round of the playoffs after shutting out Saltillo 43-0 on Friday.

“This was a good team victory and we played like this because we practiced like this,” quarterback Nash Morgan said. “We’re not going to stop here and we’re going to keep practicing hard and get ready for whoever is next.”

The Vikings got on the board on their opening drive after Eric Collins Jr. broke out on a long run. Jadarius Miller scored on a 4-yard run just a few plays later. Jonah Artman’s extra point put the score at 7-0.

On the defensive side, T’Kylan Wright made an early stop while Ronnie Blossom and Larry Reynolds Jr. both grabbed a sack.

WC gave the ball to Aden Greer who picked up some big yards up the middle. Nash Morgan then connected with Maddox Lynch as he hit one defender with a stiff arm that put him to the ground. Morgan scrambled it in for a 4-yard touchdown as the Vikings led 14-0.

After a nasty hit from Gavin Davenport, WC regained possession of the ball and Artman eventually nailed a 37-yard field goal.

Coming out in the second quarter, Morgan threw a 46-yard bomb to Jaylon “Red” Winters to put WC up 24-0. Late in the second quarter, TK Qualls tipped a pass and Blossom caught the interception. Collins ran in the 12-yard score on the next play.

After halftime, Blossom got a fumble recovery that gave WC good field position. Morgan then scrambled inside the 10-yard line just before Greer made his way into the end zone on the short run.

A running clock was in order as time quickly expired which gave the Vikings the win.

WC will face South Panola at home next Friday.
