U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., released the following statement after two airports in Mississippi received $15,500,000 to upgrade their terminals. As the highest-ranking Republican on the Senate Commerce Committee, Senator Wicker helped craft and negotiate the funding.

“Folks deserve a safer travel experience and more efficient airport systems. That is why I have long advocated for investments, just like this funding, in our airports,” Senator Wicker said. “These upgrades will expand airline options as well as attract and create more business opportunities in Mississippi.”

The grants for Mississippi will support:

Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport, City of Jackson – $8,000,000 to partially fund a terminal rehabilitation consisting of replacing escalators, elevators, HVAC systems, generators, passenger boarding bridges, and baggage belts.
Meridian Regional Airport, City of Meridian – $7,500,000 to partially fund a new terminal building and terminal access road.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will award the grants. The funding is from the Airport Terminal Program (ATP) which makes annual grants available to eligible airports for terminal development, on-airport rail access, and airport-owned airport traffic control tower projects that address the aging infrastructure of the nation’s airports.
