VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg Young Professionals are joining forces with Extra Table for the second year to combat hunger in Warren County with a high-impact red beans and rice packing event.

The effort will take place Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crawford Street United Methodist Church, 900 Crawford Street. Organizers are calling for 100 volunteers and hope to raise $6,000 to cover the cost of food supplies. Together, the volunteers will pack 10,000 meals in just one hour for distribution to local food pantries.

Extra Table, a statewide nonprofit food bank, operates the Extra Full program, an innovative one-pot meal service designed to provide Mississippi families with shelf-stable, healthy meals. Last year, 17 Warren County organizations received food through the partnership, including the Storehouse Food Pantry.
