Carson Gleese selected to play in the MAIS All-Star Game
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Carson Gleese of St. Aloysius has been selected to play in the MAIS All-Star Basketball Game, learning of the honor Tuesday night just days after leading the Flashes to two district victories over Adams County Christian School.
“First and foremost, I want to thank the man above for putting me in the position to be selected as an All-Star,” Gleese said. He also credited his late father, who first introduced him to basketball and helped shape his love for the game through backyard training sessions and time spent watching LeBron James compete in the NBA Finals. Gleese said his father always made sure each moment came with a lesson.
The All-Star selection has long been a personal goal for Gleese, who said he remained determined even when others doubted his ability to overcome challenges in his life. He also thanked head coach Walter Hallberg IV for believing in him and pushing him to improve daily, along with his family for their continued love, support and sacrifices.
A senior, Gleese is the Flashes’ leading scorer and is averaging 20.6 points per game this season. He has been an offensive force for St. Aloysius over the years and played a major role in helping the team capture the South State title this season. The Flashes enter postseason play with an 18-6 record.
Last season, Gleese was named to the All-District Team and earned Vicksburg Daily News Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year honors. In December, he reached another milestone in his career by surpassing 1,000 points, scoring 34 in a win over Riverfield Academy.
Gleese said being named an All-Star is a major accomplishment and credited his teammates for helping put him in position to earn the honor. He and the Flashes are scheduled to compete in the South State Tournament this afternoon at Columbia Academy.
The MAIS All-Star Game will be held on February 27 at Jackson Prep at 5:30 p.m.
