Three in custody after high speed chase
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Three people are in custody after a high-speed chase that started on West Clay Street in Vicksburg and into Delta, Louisiana.
Vicksburg Police were alerted that wanted murder suspect Rashad McCrory, 25, was on Highway 80, heading into Vicksburg. McCrory was a passenger in a black Dodge Challenger with a Cannon paper tag. Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Clay Street, near I-20, at about 3:45 p.m., Tuesday, March 31, but the vehicle failed to yield to lights and sirens, according to police. The suspect vehicle then fled onto I-20 West at Clay.
A high-speed pursuit ensued, with units from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office joining in. The Dodge Challenger hit speeds in excess of 140 miles per hour.
At some point in the chase, the Challenger with three people inside, made it to the Village of Delta, La., population 232. The vehicle was ditched in a location at the end of First Street in Delta, in an area of high foliage.
Units from the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana Highway Patrol, Mississippi Highway Patrol and Warren County Sheriff’s Office joined the search in Delta which included, at one point, a house-to-house search for the suspects. The Vicksburg Police Department stopped their part of the pursuit after crossing over into Louisiana.
After ditching the car at the end of First Street in Delta, the suspects ran up the levee. A short time later, the father of Rashad McCrory made contact with his son over the phone. That contact led to McCrory speaking with Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace via cell phone, and eventually McCrory turned himself in. About an hour later, units searching for the remaining suspects, 21-year-old Jaleel Fleming, of Natchez, and 19-year-old Keyonica Hatchett, of Vicksburg, found them near the mat yard near Delta.
Brandon Wilcher, with the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office, reported no law enforcement officers were injured and all three suspects involved in the chase were safely taken into custody.
Fleming will be charged with felony flight and multiple narcotics violations, and Hatchett is charged as a principal to flight.
Vicksburg Police Chief Larry Burns said, “The arrest of Rashad McCroy is a significant step in the investigation into the murder of 18-year-old Jaylon Walker of Hermanville, Mississippi. McCroy was the third suspect wanted in connection with the incident that occurred on Highway 61 South on February 11, 2026.
McCroy, who was a passenger in a vehicle, was taken into custody after officers attempted a traffic stop and the vehicle fled across the bridge into Louisiana. He was subsequently apprehended without incident.
I would like to thank the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, Delta Marshal’s Office, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and officers of the Vicksburg Police Department for their assistance in this arrest. Their collaboration was instrumental in taking this individual into custody.
This remains an active case, and we will continue working to ensure accountability for those involved.”
