St. Aloysius and PCA took Monday night losses in softball
St. Aloysius lost 17-10 to Jackson Academy after a late-game surge by their opponents. PCA also fell to Benton Academy with a score of 14-3. Both teams will seek redemption in upcoming matches.
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
St. Aloysius’ softball team suffered a 17-10 loss to Jackson Academy on Monday after the Lady Raiders used a late offensive surge to erase a nine-run deficit.
The Lady Flashes scored three runs in the first inning, with Presley Brister hitting a single, Presley Carr adding a triple and Lynlee McMillin driving in a run.
Megan Theriot extended the lead in the second with a two-run home run, putting St. Al ahead 5-1. Madison Connelly followed with a two-run double in the third to increase the Lady Flashes’ advantage to 7-1.
St. Aloysius continued to produce at the plate in the fourth. Scarlett Coutch hit a double, while Carr and Connelly each drove in runs with singles as the Lady Flashes stretched their lead to 10-1.
Jackson Academy began its comeback in the fifth, scoring three runs to cut St. Al’s lead to 10-4. A double play quickly ended the bottom of the inning for the Lady Flashes without a run.
The sixth inning proved to be the turning point as Jackson Academy erupted for 12 runs, including a two-run home run, to take a 16-10 lead. St. Aloysius was unable to score again in the sixth or seventh, while Jackson Academy added another run to secure the 17-10 victory.
Theriot went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Connelly(3 RBIs) and Carr(2 RBIs). Brister(1 RBI), Joy Dement, McMillin(2 RBIs), Libby Usry and Coutch all had one hit apiece.
The Lady Flashes will travel to face Central Hinds on Tuesday.
Other games
Porter’s Chapel Academy suffered a 14-3 loss to Benton Academy on Monday.
Coley Potter and Mia Abdo recorded the Lady Eagles’ only hits. Abdo’s hit was a double, while Kadience Pugh added an RBI.
PCA will travel to Benton Academy on Tuesday for a rematch.
