Bufkin and Masterson named Co-Captains of the PCA Cheerleading Team
VICKSBURG, MS. – Marley Bufkin and Sophie Masterson have been chosen as Captains of the Porter’s Chapel Academy cheerleading team. Bufkin and Masterson are both seniors at PCA where they are involved in multiple sports.
Bufkin:
Marley began cheering in elementary school alongside her older sister who introduced her to the sport. Over the years she decided to stick with cheer and it has made a positive impact on her high school years.
“I love cheering at the football games and prep rallies because they make Fridays fun,” Bufkin said.
Bufkin was named Captain back in May after cheer tryouts where she was selected alongside Sophie.
“I was honored to become co-captain with Sophie because it only strengthened our bond,” Marley added.
As co-captain, Bufkin is responsible for teaching material, leading, and keeping the team in line at practice and games. She was also selected as an All-American.
Masterson:
Sophie is also in her first year as captain after being selected back in May. After many years of cheering, she quickly found herself in a leadership role with the team.
“I’ve looked forward to this since I was younger because I’ve been cheering since peewee league and I’ve always been an Eagle,” Masterson said.
Sophie testified that showing school spirit is something that she preaches to her team since she’s earned this new role. Over the years, Masterson has been named All-American three times along with winning the Most Spirited Award.
Bufkin and Masterson can both be seen on the sidelines on Friday nights where they will be cheering on the football team.
