WC defeats Germantown 42-35; Morgan makes Warren County history
Warren Central High School defeated Germantown 42-35, improving to 3-0 this season. Quarterback Nash Morgan made Warren County history by becoming the first player with 30 career passing and rushing touchdowns during the game.
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
A night filled with big plays ended with Warren Central High School earning a 42-35 road victory over Germantown on Friday.
The win improved the Vikings to 3-0 as the defending state champions remained undefeated.
Warren Central quarterback Nash Morgan also made history, becoming the first player in Warren County history to record 30 career passing touchdowns and 30 career rushing touchdowns. Morgan threw one touchdown pass and rushed for another score in the victory.
Neither team scored in the first quarter, but the offenses came alive in the second.
Germantown struck first when quarterback Langston Branson threw a 21-yard touchdown pass. Warren Central’s Edward Mazie blocked the extra-point attempt, keeping the Mavericks’ lead at 6-0.
The Vikings quickly answered. Morgan broke free for a 56-yard touchdown run, and Nick Lee’s extra point gave Warren Central a 7-6 lead.
Jamal Washington then recovered a Germantown fumble, giving the Vikings another opportunity. Devin Demby capitalized by punching in an 8-yard touchdown run to extend Warren Central’s lead to 14-6.
Germantown answered with 25 seconds remaining before halftime when Branson connected with Newton for a touchdown. The Mavericks converted the 2-point attempt to tie the game at 14 heading into halftime.
Branson put Germantown back in front with 6:23 remaining in the third quarter when he broke loose for a 38-yard touchdown run, giving the Mavericks a 21-14 advantage.
Once again, Warren Central responded.
Morgan connected with Layton Lee for an 11-yard touchdown pass, and Nick Lee’s extra point tied the game at 21.
The Vikings took control with two big scores in the fourth quarter.
