Brenda Joyce Garrett McNeil, 1950-2024
A Celebration of Life will be held for Brenda Joyce Garrett McNeil on January 20,2024, 11:00 AM at Greater Grove Street M B Church, 2715 Alcorn Dr., Vicksburg, MS.
Visitation will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Center, 1625 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, MS on January 19, 2024 from 1:00 – 6:00 PM with family present from 5:00 – 6:00 PM.
Brenda was born September 27, 1950, to the late Prince Garrett and Bertha Mae Harris. She began her Christian journey at Holly Grove M.B. Church and later joined Standfield M.B. Church (now Standfield New Life).
Brenda was united in holy matrimony with Carl Jackson, Sr., and to that union one child was born: LaShonda Denise Jackson. She later married Herman McNeil.
On Wednesday morning, January 10, 2024 God saw that Brenda needed her eternal rest and summoned her to her eternal home. She was a devoted, sincere, and unique person, who kept the faith until the end. She loved crocheting, planting, and drawing. Brenda was such a creative person. She will be remembered for the precious, thoughtful, and joyful memories she added to our lives.
Brenda graduated from Rosa A. Temple High School, Class of 1968. She furthered her education at Hinds Community College (Utica Campus) until having to stop school to take care of her mom. Brenda worked at Gibson’s, WES, as a teacher’s assistant, and at Rainbow Casino in EVS.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, the late Prince Garrett and Bertha Mae Harris; maternal grandparents, the late Jake and Maud Harris; paternal grandparents; a special aunt, Josephine H. Sanders; and a host of aunts and uncles.
Her memories will be cherished by: her daughter, LaShonda D. Jackson; brother, Bishop John H. Williams, Sr., of Vicksburg, MS; grandchildren, Keyaira K. Chiplin of Houston, TX, and Kendric Chiplin of Vicksburg, MS; one niece, Shimika Williams of Texas; three nephews, Major John (Tanoa) Williams, Jr., of South Dakota, Master Sgt. Darious (CheLeta) Williams, Sr., of Texas, and Hezekiah (Makaela) Williams; eleven great nieces and nephews; and a host of special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends including the Harris, Sanders, Preacely, Jackson, Chiplin, Donerson, Burns, and McNeil families.
