Carl Cecil Pettway Sr. 1935-2024

Carl Cecil Pettway Sr., beloved by many, peacefully passed away on March 18, 2024, just a month after celebrating his 89th birthday. Born on February 18, 1935, to James Echoals Pettway and Madie Worthy Pettway in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Carl found solace in his faith as a devoted Christian and a as member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. His roots run deep in his hometown. He dedicated much of his life to his craft as a carpenter, leaving a legacy of craftsmanship evident in the two-family homes he built in the Oak Ridge Community.

In his journey through life, Carl was preceded in death by his loving parents, his cherished wife Susie Sibley Pettway, his daughter Cathy Pettway Greenwald and son-in-law Kevin Greenwald, his brothers Raymond and Milton, and his sisters Bobbie and Doris.

Carl’s memory lives on through his children: Gail King of Tampa, FL; Pam Spickard (Dave) of Little Rock, AR; and Carl Cecil Pettway Jr (Sheila) of Monroe, GA. He also leaves behind stepchildren Pat Bufkin and Michael Bufkin, both of Vicksburg, MS, along with his sister Carolyn Redditt of Vicksburg.

His legacy extends to his grandchildren: Ryan, Jeremy, and Renee King; Kristen and James Spickard; Nickolas Pettway; and Daniel Greenwald. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Wayne and Mooney Pettway. Not to be forgotten are his loyal companions, Bella, Bailey, and Cassie, who stood faithfully by his side until the end.

Carl’s life will be celebrated on Monday, March 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home, with Pastor Roger Cresswell officiating. Before the service, friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery, with a gathering for family and friends at the Bradley Chapel Community Center, 11031 Oak Ridge Rd. thereafter. Through these moments shared Carl’s memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Redditt, Alan Hampton, Eric Pettway, Nickolas Pettway, Daniel Greenwald and Howard Johnson.  Bert Bryant, Robert Sibley, Charles Jones, Buddy Rowland, Paul Marshall, Dr. Lee Giffin, and Rick Arnold will be honorary pallbearers.
