MONROE, La. (VDN)Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson died at the age of 79, his family announced Sunday evening.

“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,” the family wrote in a social media post. “He reminded us often of the words of Paul: ‘You do not grieve like those who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.’

“Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, by his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who would listen the Good News of Jesus. We are grateful for his life on earth and will continue the legacy of love for God and love for others until we see him again.”

Robertson was a professional hunter, and developed the Duck Commander line of duck calls in the 1970s. He and his family were the stars of Duck Dynasty which ran from 2012-2017. In 2019, Robertson started the podcast Unashamed with his sons Al and Jase, and his nephew Zach.

White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, La., the Robertson family’s home church, also released a statement:

“Our brother in Christ Phil Robertson has gone to be with Jesus. While we will miss him, we celebrate his victory and look forward to the resurrection. Please continue to keep the Robertson family in your prayers.”
