VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)Warren Central High School graduate Hayes Loper made his college decision official Thursday, signing with Southwest Mississippi Community College during a ceremony held in his honor at the school.

Loper, one of Warren County’s most consistent baseball performers over the past two seasons, put pen to paper just weeks after being named the Vicksburg Daily News Co-Baseball Player of the Year.

As a junior, Loper played a key role in helping the Vikings reach the state championship series. He recorded 24 hits and 20 RBIs, cementing himself as a crucial part of the team’s offensive lineup.

He returned as a senior with even more production, finishing the 2025 season with 38 hits, 10 doubles, four triples, 18 RBIs and a .392 batting average. His efforts contributed to Warren Central securing its third consecutive district championship under head coach Randy Broome.

Loper’s standout performance earned him multiple postseason honors, including selections to the All-District, All-County, and All-State teams. His leadership and consistency on the field made him a top target for several junior college programs across the state.

Ultimately, Loper chose to continue his baseball career at Southwest Mississippi Community College, located in Summit. He selected the Bears over a number of other JUCO offers, citing the program’s coaching staff and development opportunities as key factors in his decision.

Loper is the son of Tony and Holly Loper. He now looks forward to the next chapter in his baseball journey at the collegiate level where his is expected to make a positive impact on the program at Southwest Mississippi CC.
