Jason York Named Head Volleyball Coach at Warren Central

VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Jason York has been named the new head volleyball coach at Warren Central High School, stepping in for Matthew Gullett, who recently accepted a position on the Gulf Coast.

York brings years of coaching experience, having worked with various girls’ teams since 1999. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach for both the boys and girls soccer programs at Warren Central, helping lead both squads to the North State Championship.

“I knew there was an opening, and nobody applied,” York said. “I didn’t want the girls to fall behind after such a good season last year.”

With most of the starting lineup returning, York has already begun preseason practices, emphasizing discipline and a demanding training schedule.

“Coach Gullett left behind a strong program with great senior leadership,” York said. “I won’t be able to take much credit at all.”

York stresses humility and character in his coaching philosophy, placing personality over performance.

“It’s not about me, it’s about the girls,” he said. “I’m just here to point them in the right direction—they’re the ones doing the work.”

York recently held tryouts for the upcoming season, drawing 53 athletes and narrowing the roster to 24.

As Warren Central looks to build on last season’s success, York hopes to continue the program’s momentum while instilling values that extend beyond the court.
