Local Music Legends Record

Six local music legends met over the weekend to record songs for a CD.

Lee H. Abraham sang and strummed a guitar, Daniel Boone played the drums, Kenny Boone played on lead guitar, Kimble Slaton played the bass, Bob Ingram was on the keyboard and youngster Patrick Smith was also on the keyboard.

The group of local music legends met Saturday and Sunday to record the music for a CD. They recorded 10 tracks on Saturday and on Sunday they played a song they created in the studio. The sweet tune about being allowed into heaven wasn’t quite right for Lee H. so he suggested, “Let’s try it with a New Orleans beat.” Patrick Smith’s piano made a path for the opening bars that feature Lee H. singing along. A few notes later the ensemble joined in and gave it that distinct feel of a classic New Orleans tune.

“I grew up watching these guys play,” said Patrick Smith. “They are an inspiration to me and getting to play with them is something.” Smith then went back into the studio and played like a seasoned session keyboardist, adjusting to each suggested change to the tune.

Daniel Boone played drums in a separate room, sound proofed by glass, wood and air from the four musicians in the main studio and Slaton playing bass in the mixing room.

Hummingbird Studios

“It was this or a corvette,” quipped Kimble Slaton about Hummingbird Studios. The studio was built about 7 years ago to Slaton’s specifications by Slaton. “I placed every nail in here.” Built in a concrete block building, there is insulation between the concrete and the first inner wall. There is then an interior wall, an air gap then the wall lining the rooms. The smartly designed studio also features state of the art equipment and a comfortable viewing area for roadies and family.

Abraham expects the CD to be out in the fall and it will go on sale at the Strand, more on that later.
