Mallet sentenced to 30 years for the death of her 3-year-old child

Brooke Mallet has been sentenced after being found guilty for the death of her 3-year-old child, KM. Judge James Chaney sentenced Mallet to 30 years in prison on Wednesday. She was sentenced to 20 years for Culpable Manslaughter and five years each for the two counts of Child Neglect, all to run consecutively.
Jurors convicted Mallet of Culpable Negligence Manslaughter, along with two counts of child neglect. District Attorney Ricky Smith and Assistant District Attorney Michael Warren prosecuted the case where they asked for Mallet to be sentenced to the maximum.
Mallet was arrested on April 21, 2023, when her 5-year-old, DM, wandered from his home on Old Highway 27 to an area home. The resident of that house called 911. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and began searching for DM’s residence. They eventually came upon Mallet who was asleep with her boyfriend. Brooke wasn’t aware that DM was missing and she asked about her second child, a male, three-year-old KM.
KM was eventually discovered deceased in a pond by Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace. Shortly before this incident, one of her children was found walking alone on Highway 27 in Copiah County.
KM’s death is what brought on Mallet’s Culpable Manslaughter charge while the living conditions of KM and DM prompted the two child abuse charges. It was discovered that there were meth pipes in the bed, no electricity, no running water, feces in the bathtub and kitchen, and DM was covered in bug bites at the home. There was also a handgun was present and both kids tested positive for meth.
