Mary Emma Burns, a cherished resident of Vicksburg, MS, born on December 12, 1935, transitioned from this life on November 9, 2023, in Houston, TX.

Mary, affectionately known as Mae Emma, led a life abundant with love for her family and friends. Her enduring legacy is rooted in her unwavering love and support for her children, demonstrating strength and faith in all circumstances. She found solace in the simple guidance of prayer and entrusting matters to God, a philosophy she held dear until her peaceful passing at 5:45 pm, surrounded by her children and grandchildren in Houston, TX, where she spent her last two years.

Mary was reunited in the afterlife with her husband, Mr. Robert Gray, her parents, Amos and Julia Johnson, her sisters Ollie, Carrie Mae, Pearline, and her son, Sam Burns, Jr. Her love and influence live on through her surviving children, Charles H. Burns (Darlene), Velma Burns Pilate, Eddie J. Burns (Debbie), Thelma R. Dennis (Troy), Abby D. Webley (Regal), and her beloved extended family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Westhaven Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a family hour from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mt. Elam M.B. Church in Vicksburg, MS.

The funeral service will take place on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Grove Street M.B. Church, with burial at Second Union Church Cemetery in Utica, MS.

Mary’s life, marked by love, faith, and resilience, will be celebrated and honored by all who knew her during these services.
