Shooting Waffle House

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A shooting at Waffle House on Clay Street is still under investigation, according to a Waffle House employee.

Around sunrise, gunshots rang out this morning at the Waffle House on Clay Street in Vicksburg. Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones reported, “The Vicksburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of Waffle House, located in the 4000 block of East Clay Street. Three windows of the business and two vehicles were damaged by gunfire.

Preliminary information suggests that a shootout took place as vehicles were leaving the parking lot. Several shell casings were recovered at the scene. At this time, no injuries have been reported. Video footage has been collected and will be reviewed to determine how the incident unfolded and to identify those involved.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Captain Curtis Judge at the Vicksburg Police Department at 601-636-2511.”

Witnesses reported seeing a significant police presence at the shooting and numerous yellow markers that traditionally are used to mark shell casings found at a shooting.

The Vicksburg Daily News will update this story as information is made available.

Waffle House went to-go only on Friday and Saturday nights in July. In a post to social media, a Waffle House division manager made the announcement citing security concerns. “I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but ultimately the decision is being made for the safety of our employees and customers.” They also added that security will be increased during those times.
