Over 200 kids participated in the 10th annual Malcolm Butler Camp

Over 200 kids showed up to the 10th annual Malcolm Butler Camp on Saturday.

Butler, who is a Vicksburg native and retired NFL football player, comes home every year to throw a free camp for the local kids in the community.

“I always feel great to see the kids every year and it went by so fast and it’s one of the best days of the year for me,” Butler said. “One guy wrote me on Facebook and showed me that he had eight of my camp shirts so that definitely made me feel special.”

Each year, many kids are in attendance at Butler’s camp where a host of volunteer coaches are leading drills to enhance the young athlete’s skills. Butler also participated in drills as he joked about one of the kids beating him in the 40-yard dash.

Since Butler’s retirement from football, he continued to throw this camp and always represented Vicksburg, proudly.

“I just want to be remembered as a guy who never forgot where he came from, a motivator, a man of God, and a respectful human being,” Butler said.
Butler is no longer playing football but mentioned that coaching could be possible in the future.
Malcolm, thank you for being a true inspiration for the kids of Vicksburg.
