Over 70 kids participate in the Ellis Burks camp on Tuesday

In just a two days notice, the Fuzzy Johnson Park was filled with young boys and girls who participated in a baseball and softball camp with former MLB player Ellis Burks.

The camp was organized by Gene Andrews who quickly gathered multiple volunteers including Burks to host the free event.

“The kids learned so much and they did things that they didn’t know they could do but most importantly they listened,” Andrews said.

Over 70 kids showed up for the camp Vicksburg, Yazoo, Port Gibson, and Bentonia to learn important skills from the volunteers who took time out of their schedules to teach.

Andrews also mentioned that Burks has agreed to throw a camp every year in hopes that attendance continues to rise.
