Port Gibson High names Basketball Cheer Captains

PORT GIBSON, Miss. (VDN) — Port Gibson High School has announced its basketball cheerleading captains for the 2025-2026 season. Seniors Destinee Hyder, Kaitlyn Nicole Banks, and D’Erriyah Savage, along with junior Aaliyah West, will lead the team as captains. Hyder and Banks have been selected as Head Captains, while Savage and West will serve as Co-Captains.

Hyder, a 12th-grade student, has been cheering for seven years and began her journey in the seventh grade. She found out about her captain status in July 2025. A cheerleader for both football and basketball, Hyder said she loves “the sisterhood bond and supporting classmates.” She is the daughter of Edith Hyder and Cedric Watson and is the recipient of the Most Hype Award.

Destinee Hyder

Banks, also a senior, started cheering in sixth grade and earned her Head Captain title in July 2025. She cheers for both football and basketball teams and says she loves “the experience and the support of classmates.” Banks, daughter of Tomeka Lipscomb-Banks, received the Most Creative Award.

Kaitlyn Nicole Banks

Savage, a 12th-grade senior, began cheering in seventh grade and enjoys “creating memories.” She is Miss Port Gibson High School 2025-2026, a CTE Ambassador, and a National Honor Society member. She is the daughter of Derrick and Ollie Savage.

D’Erriyah Savage

West, an 11th grader, has cheered since eighth grade and serves as a Co-Captain for both football and basketball. She said she enjoys “building new bonds and creating memories.” West holds the title of Miss Junior 2025-2026 and is a member of the National Technical Honor Society. She is the daughter of Quateshia and Hassan West.

Aaliyah West

Together, the four student leaders bring years of experience, school spirit, and dedication to Port Gibson High’s cheer program. They are led by Head Coach Raven Jones.
