Shots Fired at Clay and Cherry
VICKSBURG, Miss – Numerous shots were fired at the gas station located at Clay and Cherry at around 11:15 a.m. Friday morning.
According to an eyewitness, two individuals got into an altercation at this location. The fight escalated and one of them produced a weapon and emptied it, according to the witness. The shooter, described as a black male wearing a black sweatsuit and an orange knit cap then ran to Adams heading east towards Locust. They were last seen running near the area of Locust and Grove. Multiple units with the Vicksburg Police Department were observed circling the area looking for the suspect. At this time there is no report the suspected shooter has been apprehended or that any threat exists.
A blue Dodge Charger was later observed to have gunshot damage including the back window being shot out. At this time, there are no reported injuries.
Numerous cameras are at the gas station and it is believed a video of the event will help in the investigation.

Today’s shooting is one of several reported shots fired in the city. A weekly incident report provided by the Vicksburg Police Department shows some of those incidents. However, most often the shots fired incidents are not recorded in the report because officers find no evidence in the area. A recent incident that was called into the 911 Call Center did not show up on the report in spite of several people calling and reporting the sound of gunfire.
Coffee with a Cop
The Vicksburg Police Department is hosting a “Coffee with a Cop” event at McDonald’s on Clay Street November 13 at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to meet with local officers. The event announcement states, “Connect with local law enforcement officers, share thoughts, and ask questions in a relaxed setting. Discussing current crime data, holiday safety tips, and more!”
