Jennifer Smith and Za’Miya Riley have taken over as Head Coach/Captain of the Vikettes for the 2024-2025 season.

Riley, who is a sophomore at WC, first began dancing at the age of seven when April Green introduced her to the sport. She decided to stick with dance and eventually made the Vikettes squad when she entered Junior High School.

“Dance is how I express myself and it’s my most favorite thing to do,” Riley said.

Riley was first named Captain at the beginning of summer by Smith.

“I was surprised when I first found out but I’m still excited,” Riley added. “Being a captain is a lot of work but I’m prepared for it.”

Smith is in her first year as Head Coach of the Vikettes. She is a Year 2000 graduate of WC and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development from Alcorn State University. Smith also previously worked as a Teacher at Kings Head Start.

Smith will be assisted by Jade Bell who plays a heavy role with the team.

The Vikettes will be dancing alongside the band and during halftime at the football games.
