Warren Central High School’s Maddy Pant reached an extraordinary goal as the sophomore pitcher surpassed 100 strikeouts on Monday.

In a 16-0 shutout victory, Pant threw six strikeouts to put her at 105 on the year.

“I’m very excited and very grateful to have a team behind me that can definitely play behind those strikeouts,” Pant said.

As a first-year started, Pant has been on fire all season where WC currently stands with a 17-4 record. Some of her best performances were against Ridgeland and Richland where she struck out nine batters in both games and only allowed one hit.

Just a year ago, Pant was pitching behind Abby Morgan(current Memphis pitcher) but she has now proven she has what it takes to lead the Lady Vikes.

“It’s been a great year and I love the girls a lot and I couldn’t do it without my catcher(MK Ferguson),” Maddy said.

Maddy has already shown what she’s capable of when it comes to throwing the ball, but she’s also dominating at bat. After finishing last night with three hits, Pant now has a .407 batting average with 24 hits, 39 RBIs, two home runs and five doubles.

“Seeing all the great hits with the team this year shows that it’s been a great hitting season so far and I’m looking to keep it going with the girls,” she said.

Pant also mentioned that one of her goals this year is to reach at least 150 strikeouts before the end of the season as WC still have a few remaining games left before they enter the playoffs.

Pant and the Lady Vikes will host Vicksburg High tonight.
