A holy man prayed for me

David Cruz has been walking across America for three and a half years. “I’m walking and working to improve the lines of communication between God and me. Steady, stable lines of communication. That’s what is was, that’s how it all started,” Cruz explained. On Friday he passed through Vicksburg.

If Jesus were to show up in Mississippi today, I think he would look and dress a lot like David Cruz.

During the time of Christ, he would have typically worn sandals and a one-piece tunic. Only the rich wore long tunics, and most tunics during that era were usually two pieces sewn at the shoulder and sides; most ended just below the knee. One-piece tunics in first-century Judaea were typically very basic and intended as undergarments or children’s wear. It was not considered fashionable to wear a one-piece tunic. The Bible says Jesus also wore a mantle, a large shawl with tassels still used today. Mantles were usually made of wool and could be large or small, thick or fine, colored or natural. For men, there was a preference for undyed types.

People in our time dress differently, but basic clothes still look basic. David Cruz was wrapped in trash bags and packing tape to keep him dry from the rain. His shoes were worn and you could see his toes through the top of his left shoe.

After speaking with him for a few minutes, there was enough information for the story so we ended the interview. He suggested we take a selfie, and we did.

Then he asked if I wanted him to pray for me, and I did. He asked if I wanted to record it, so I did.

It was the most extraordinary prayer, lasting about two minutes, with him barely taking a breath, and I wanted to share it with you, the readers of the Vicksburg Daily News.  So here it is in its entirety, exactly the way he said it:

“My Creator I come to you humbly so you may bless David, his family, his friends and everyone that has anything to do with his existence.

Allow him to understand that you are the light at the end of the tunnel so it doesn’t matter which doors are closed.

And it doesn’t matter which corners we turn to or what path we chose as long as he has you in his heart you would allow him to reach the heights that no man can get to on their own. 

And you will do this while the world witness that it is your grace your love and your compassion that is coursing through his soul.

Allow him to understand that you are the light and the salvation.

You are his victory in the trials and tribulations just like you’ve been his victory in the hurdles, the obstacles and the temptation. 

You shall be his victory against it.

All of those who want to hinder him his greatness.

Allow him to understand that you, you have molded him in the past so he could be a light bearer in this world. 

So every room that he enter and every door that he exit everyone shall see that he carry your signature and everyone shall feel that he radiates your presence and everyone shall know that is your beacon of light that’s within him, protecting him, protecting him from all the sickness, all the illness and all of the diseases that linger.

Protect him with the same clothe that you use to protect me.

Heal him the same way that you healed my mind, my body, my feet.

Do not let the enemy pull the wool over his eyes. 

Allow him to reach the pinacle to his wealth, the pinacle to his health the pinacle to his success while you illuminate his path so he can walk into his purpose he can walk into his destiny.

Allow him to understand that you shall protect him whenever there is danger

You teach him how to maneuver whenever there’s a snare you’ll teach him how to avoid them.

And whenever you pass him the torch so that he can be a light and blessing to everyone.

Protect this man he’s ten toes down. Solid, steady, ready willing and able to do whatever it is that you need him to do.

He just wants to feel your grace where ever he go and he wants to hear your voice in everything that he say.

You know that his loyalty has no expiration date.

With your name he shall always pray. Amen.”
