VHS smashed Lanier 91-56 on Thursday; Missy Gators fell short in the final seconds


Vicksburg High School boys’ basketball team had a field day against Lanier as they came out with a 91-56 win.
The Bulldogs came out thriving but the Gators quickly put an end to that when Davian Willams and Kealon Bass knocked down 3-pointers along with Jaylin Jackson who put up eight points in the first quarter.
By halftime, the Gators were up 46-27 after Javeion Perkins pulled out a couple of 3-pointers while Jackson couldn’t be stopped. Big man Kameryn Bailey came alive in the third quarter as he put up double digits. Chiplin, Khalib Minor and Kris Washington all hit 3-pointers in the final quarter.
Williams led with 17 points in the win while Bass and Bailey both had 14. Jackson finished the night with 16 on the board and Perkins added eight. Lazaveon Sylvester brought in seven points and Chiplin scored five while Minor had three. Maxwell and May both scored two points.
Missy Gators:
VHS took a close 55-54 loss to Lanier on Thursday.
The first half belonged to Cynia Johnson as she came down with multiple layups that put VHS ahead 26-21 at halftime.
The Missy Gators came out of halftime on fire as Kierra James knocked a 3-pointer as well as crossing a defender as she hit the floor. VHS managed to get a double digit lead but the Lady Bulldogs snuck their way back into the game and narrowed Vicksburg’s lead to 40-36.
James fouled-out in the fourth quarter as VHS and LHS went back and forth in the final seconds. Terri Boyd knocked down a 3-pointer but Lanier finished out with the win.
Johnson led with 21 points while James added 19 on the board. Boyd finished with seven on the night while Jordan Grace hit a 3-pointer. Rodrianna Hall and Jada Erwin both had two points.
