Vicksburg High teams turn Ugly Sweater Game into holiday giving
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg High School softball team combined holiday spirit with community service during its annual Ugly Sweater Game on Wednesday, collecting Christmas toys for children in need.
The event supports an initiative by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office that provides toys to children with incarcerated parents, victims’ children and those involved with Child Protective Services. Each year, the game serves as both a fundraiser and a reminder of the impact local schools can have beyond the playing field.
“I’d like to thank Coach Briana Knox for this Ugly Sweater Game that they do every year. Everyone had a blast,” Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said. “These fundraisers make a huge difference in what we’re doing, and what the coach has done this year and in years past is certainly appreciated.”
The softball team hosted the event, which featured a co-ed game between the VHS baseball and softball teams despite cold weather conditions. Players, coaches and spectators embraced the festive theme while supporting a meaningful cause.
“This event is always big for us because we love to give back to the community, and it’s great for the girls to build team chemistry with the baseball team,” Knox said.
One team claimed a 12-6 victory, but the score was secondary to the fun. Coaches even joined the action, as Knox stepped out of retirement for a few hits and VHS baseball coach Brandon Kincaid capped the night with a home run.
The Ugly Sweater Game served as a reminder of how the community can come together during the holiday season to support children and families in need.
