Vicksburg, Warren Central volleyball teams earn Thursday victories

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN)Vicksburg High School and Warren Central High School both collected volleyball wins Thursday night, with the Missy Gators defeating Provine and the Lady Vikes earning a district sweep over Greenville.

At Vicksburg, the Missy Gators battled to a 2-1 victory in varsity action, winning by set scores of 25-12, 22-25 and 25-13. Several players contributed across the board. Jamiya Stewart led the way with 19 points and 5 digs, while Jordan Grace added 15 points and a dig. Teagan Stewart and Dallas West each finished with 10 points, with West also recording 2 digs.

Jermeria Wright provided 7 points and 4 digs, followed by Jada Erwin with 5 points and 3 digs. Saudia Stewart chipped in 3 points and 1 dig, and both Alaina Williams and JaKeyla Curry added 2 points apiece.

Across town, Warren Central picked up a key 3-0 district victory over Greenville, sweeping in straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-11. The Lady Vikes combined for 23 points off aces while cleaning up errors late in the match.

Offensively, Warren Central was powered by Kennedi Zellous with 7 kills, along with Jenkins adding 8 and Henderson leading the way with 10. Defensively, KeKe McKay anchored the back row with steady play that helped secure the sweep.

Both programs will look to build on their wins as the season progresses, with Vicksburg seeking to maintain momentum and Warren Central aiming to stay strong in district play.
