The Watermark Vicksburg is doing something a little different this evening for their monthly Second Thursday: a blues jam.

“We’re excited. The first [Second Thursday] was April 14, 2022 with P2K DaDiddy. Since that time we have hosted Mr. Sipp, D Mistro, Charles CC Carter, MS Marshall and several other blues musicians. We now are looking forward to hosting our local musicians.” said Amber Morton co-owner of the Watermark Vicksburg. Morton co-owns the establishment with Daryl Hollingsworth.

Typically during a blues jam, musicians sign up to take take turns leading songs, which often follow the traditional 12-bar blues structure. The make-up is typically guitars, bass, and drums, though other instruments can also join in. Who ever fronts the set calls the key and tempo, with the other musicians adding their unique contributions through solos and grooves.

A sign up sheet will be available near the stage, and will be first in-first out. The house band, the Marksmen, will kick off things off, playing the first set.

CC’s will be serving her sandwiches and the evening kicks off at 5:00 with happy hour, featuring 2 for 1 margaritas and $1 off domestic beer.

Blues jams are a staple of live music scenes, especially in cities with rich musical traditions, like Vicksburg, and offer both seasoned musicians and newcomers an opportunity to hone their skills, collaborate creatively, and connect with other musicians. The audience often enjoy the spontaneous and dynamic nature of these performances, which highlight the genre’s expressive and communal spirit.

There is no cover for this event. Doors open at 5:00pm, and music starts at 6:00pm.
