WC defeats MRA 28-14 in their spring game

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Warren Central High School football team defeated Madison-Ridgeland Academy 28-14 in their spring game on Thursday.
“It was a good win, but we made a few mistakes that we have to work on,” quarterback Nash Morgan said. “We’re going to keep working and fix those mistakes so we can better ourselves.”
Morgan’s pass was picked off early in the game, but the Viking defense was able to get WC back on offense after a few plays. After Morgan connected with Caleb Lane on a 10-yard gain, rising sophomore Javid Scott picked up two 18-yard runs to put WC in good field position. Morgan scored on a 12-yard run on the next play, and Jonah Artman kicked the successful extra point.
As MRA took possession of the ball, T’Kylan Wright came up with a major stop. Eventually, MRA tied the game at 7-7 after Will Jones caught a 30-yard touchdown with 6:57 left in the first quarter.
Late in the first quarter, Morgan showed his throwing and running ability as he picked up a 10 and a 13-yard run before completing a first-down pass to Mike Hall. Tommy Nelson also pushed WC down the field with some good running. The Vikings managed to get on the board again after Morgan threw a 34-yard beauty to Hall with 2:58 left in the quarter.
Before the end of the first quarter, Samuel Ross grabbed a sack, and Jonas Moore caused a fumble.
WC maintained their 14-7 lead throughout the second quarter. Scott took over the ground game and picked up multiple first downs. Morgan hit Moore and KJ Wynn on a few passes while defensively, Jamari Gaines and Chaka Walker both made huge stops.
WC started the third quarter off right with Landon Green earning 15 yards on a run, which was followed by a 13-yard gain from Wynn. Morgan also continued to use his footwork as he gained 27 yards on a run just before running in a 1-yard touchdown a few plays later.
Later on in the third quarter, Morgan connected with Wynn through the air twice just before Scott added another huge run. Fred Mixon punched in the final touchdown for WC with 42 seconds left.
MRA got on the board one more time before the end of the game when Jones caught a 70-yard touchdown.
For WC, Scott rushed for 91 yards, and Morgan ran for two scores and threw one touchdown while rushing for over 60 yards.
“I predicted this because we work hard every day and we’re trying to win a state championship,” Scott said.
