WC’s Jamarian Shelly Signs with Hinds CC

Vicksburg, Miss.-When Warren needed a goalkeeper, Jamarian Shelly stepped up for the job. Shelly, a first-year soccer player, went from being just a student to being a star athlete within a few month’s time as he now signed a soccer scholarship to Hinds Community College.

“Hinds is the best fit for me,” Shelly said. “The overall school and atmosphere is great out there so I decided to take a chance.”

Shelly had no intention of playing soccer but decided to try something different to occupy his senior. He soon caught the eye of WC Head Coach Greg Head and became a true asset to the team.
“It was a surprise when he came to me because I usually don’t keep seniors but he made a commitment to work,” Coach Head said. “I’m glad I made the decision to keep him because he has so much natural athletic ability and does everything you tell him to do so it was the best decision I’ve made all year.”
Coming in as a starter at a 6A program, Shelly had to learn to be a true athlete at a fast paste. He not only earned a starting spot, but he also led the Vikings to a district championship. One of his best performances was against Germantown in a 1-1 tie where he grabbed 13 saves.

Shelly testified that a championship was the goal for 2025 but that dream was cut short on Monday in a 2-0 loss to Center Hill in the North State Championship.
“We weren’t fully satisfied with the year because we wanted that trophy but we felt complete, Shelly added.
Jamarian finished the year with a total of 83 saves while leading WC to an 18-3-2 record. Although his time was short on the soccer field, Shelly had a huge support system whom he thanked for being with him.

“I want to thank God and my mom,” he said. “I also want to thank Coach Head for the opportunity along with my family and teammates.”
