Jackson, who plays right field, chose Mississippi Delta Community College in spite of receiving interest from schools such as Bishop State and Coastal Alabama-North.

Introduced to softball in the fifth grade, Jackson stuck with the game she loved that led her to playing at Warren Central under former Head Coach Dana McGivney.

“I will admit that it was a little tough playing under Coach Mac but she really wanted us to be the best we can be and I really love her and miss her,” Jackson said.

Makayla played a significant role in helping Warren Central advance to the playoffs throughout most of her varsity years. In 2023, Jackson helped the Lady Vikes reach the second round of the playoffs and ended the season with a .300 batting average, 18 hits, 10 RBIs and a .907 fielding percentage.

Now just a year later, Jackson is dominating as a senior for the Lady Vikings. Commenting on Tuesday’s 4-3 win over Germantown, Jackson said, “That was the first time ww’ve beat Germantown since I’ve been playing and I knew we had the potential to do it but we just happened to bring it in that game.”

Makayla now plays under Head Coach Brian Ellis as they sit with a current 5-2 record.

“He’s really goofy but very understanding and positive about everything and never negative,” she added.

Since playing in the VGSA League, softball has made a huge impact on Jackson’s life and it has given her an opportunity to play at the next level.

“Softball has always been really fun especially creating bonds with my teammates and playing the sport that I really love,” she said.

Makayla is the daughter of Gary and Cindy Jackson and she will be majoring in Radiology.
