VICKSBURG, Miss.-Warren Central High School track & field athlete Will Bates finished Tuesday’s meet with some of his personal best times. He participated in both the 3200 and 1600.

In the 3200, Bates came in second place with a final time of 11:33.79. Bates’ 3200 was the best time in WC’s program since 2001. In the 1,600, Bates finished with a time of 5:09.87. That as well was WC’s best time in the 1,600 since 2011.

“I was nervous at first but I felt ready and focused a lot on my training,” Bates said.

Bates testified that he trains hard, even on the weekend at five in the morning to improve his athleticism. He did just that in the Jackson Public School Invitational.

“I’m trying to stay humble about it but I’m just going to continue training for my next meet and keep running,” Bates added.

Bates is a junior who also runs cross country in the Fall for WC. He runs under Head Coach Corey Wilson Sr.

On Monday, the Vikings will compete in the Canton City Speed Invitational.
