10 Hinds Baseball Athletes Move on to the Next Level

RAYMOND, Miss. – Ten members of the Hinds Community College Baseball team have moved on with their athletic careers to four-year colleges.
Brady Boykin and Cole Burton are headed to Belhaven University, pitcher Owen Hendry will take his talents to the University of West Alabama, Ryan Herbison and Tyler Janos are headed to Delta State University, Homerun King Cameron Hill is headed to Grambling State University, Grant Holmes will become a Choctaw at Mississippi College, All-American Thomas Marsalais headed to Western Kentucky University, Eagle Award winner Lincoln Sheffield will become a Wildcat at Kansas State University and the tenth member of the baseball team is Benji Webb, who will be headed to Blue Mountain Christian University.
Cameron Hill finished the season with a .315 batting average, posted 67 hits, and finished the season with 19 doubles, 17 home runs, and 74 RBI. Hill was named to the All-MACCC First Team and NJCAA Region 23 Team for his spectacular season for the Eagles. Additionally, Hill currently sits atop the record book with 17 home runs hit in the BBCOR era.
Thomas Marsala had an impressive season with the Eagles and led the team with a .389 batting average, a .472 on-base percentage, and totaled 81 hits. Additionally, he was second on the team with 13 doubles, 13 home runs, and 57 RBI. Thomas was awarded LL-MACCC First Team, NJCAA Region 23 Team, and was named a NJCAA Second Team All-American.
Lincoln Sheffield was the ace on the staff, posted a 7-5 record on the mound with 84 strikeouts in 84.1 innings pitched, and finished the year with a 3.62 ERA. Sheffield earned a couple of accolades at the end of the season which included: All-MACCC Honorable Mention and the Prestigious Eagle Award. In two years for Hinds, Sheffield was 11-9 on the mound with 122 strikeouts in 129.1 innings pitched.
Brady Boykin pitched 36.2 innings on the mound for the Eagles this season and had a 4-2 record on the bump while striking out 46 batters.
Cole Burton was mainly a relief pitcher for the Eagles during the 2023 season and logged 41.2 innings pitched. Additionally, he totaled 38 strikeouts in three starts.
Ryan Herbison finished the season with a 7-6 overall record on the mound in 78.2 innings pitched. Additionally, he struck out 62 batters and started 14 games on the bump for Hinds.
Grant Holmes was a relief pitcher for Hinds, pitched 7.2 innings, totaled 13 strikeouts, and earned a save during the 2023 season.
Tyler Janos was the primary catcher for the Eagles as he had a .320 batting average,.412 OBP, .417 SLUG, and drove in 39 runs.
Benji Webb was a relief pitcher for Hinds as it logged 9.2 innings pitched and grabbed eight strikeouts.
Owen Hendry was redshirted this past season, but during his freshman campaign, he had four appearances for the Eagles.
