Lady Flashes defeat Porter’s Chapel Academy 37-12
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — St. Aloysius girls’ basketball team extended its winning streak to three games with a 37-12 victory over crosstown rival Porter’s Chapel Academy on Saturday.
“I feel real good about today’s win because we were down at the beginning of the season, but we’re still working hard, and I’m proud of our effort,” Taryn Lusby said.
The Lady Flashes jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first quarter behind two long-range baskets from Elle Larson. Lexi Whittington accounted for all three of PCA’s first-quarter points with a 3-pointer.
St. Aloysius took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Eagles 9-0 to carry a 19-3 lead into halftime. The Lady Flashes spread the scoring around, with Larson, Taryn Lusby, Annslee Averett and Kennadi Blassingame each scoring in the period. PCA was held scoreless in the quarter.
The Lady Flashes led 27-11 at the end of the third quarter, capitalizing primarily at the free-throw line. Mia Abdo knocked down a 3-pointer for PCA in the period.
Presley Carr added a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter as St. Aloysius closed out the 37-12 win.
Lusby led St. Aloysius with eight points. Larson finished with six points, while Kelci Bingham and Blassingame added five points each. Averett and Megan Theriot scored four points apiece, Carr had three points, and Farrell Roberson and Olivia Larsen scored one point each.
For Porter’s Chapel Academy, Abdo and Whittington scored three points each. Jayden Chapin and Michaela Chambliss added two points apiece, while Lauren Rae Davis and Haylee White each finished with one point.
In the junior high game, the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes defeated Porter’s Chapel Academy 36-15. Kennadi Blassingame led with 14 points, followed by Kelci Bingham with 13. Addy Hardaway scored three points, while Joy Dement, Charolette Amborne and Analeigh Herring each added two points.
For PCA, Brooklyn DeRossette scored six points, Chapin had five, and Lauren Rae Davis finished with five points.
