Vicksburg murder suspect released
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A Vicksburg murder suspect has been released from custody after the court determined there was insufficient evidence to continue holding him in connection with a February homicide.
Quinton Wilson, one of two men arrested in the killing of Jaylon Walker, was released following a hearing Monday afternoon before Judge Marcie Southerland.
Walker, of Hermanville, was found dead on Feb. 11 after officers with the Vicksburg Police Department responded to an E-911 call reporting a male suffering from a gunshot wound along U.S. Highway 61 South near Demby Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered Walker deceased inside his vehicle.
Wilson and co-defendant Arkeyveion Stamps were arrested in Kokomo, Indiana, a few weeks after the shooting and extradited to Mississippi to face charges.
According to information presented in court, the District Attorney’s Office did not have sufficient evidence to continue holding Wilson. District Attorney Ricky Smith said the case will be revisited once additional evidence is received from the Vicksburg Police Department.
The investigation into Walker’s death remains ongoing.
