Alderman TJ Mayfield Hosts “Spring Break Read and Feed” Event

Vicksburg, Miss.-Alderman TJ Mayfield is excited to announce the creation of the Spring Break Read and Feed, a special event designed to promote literacy and provide meals for children during spring break. The event will take place daily during the week of March 10-14, from 8:00 – 9:30 AM. There will be three locations available during this week including the Vicksburg-Warren Youth Development Center (2020 Mission 66), Mt. Zion #4 MB Church (122 Union Avenue), and Headquarters Barber and Beauty Shop (1223 Monroe Street).
The Spring Break Read and Feed event aims to ensure that children remain engaged in learning while also addressing food insecurity that many families face during school breaks. Attendees will enjoy free books and nutritious meals, creating a fun and educational environment for all.
“We want to encourage a love for reading while also supporting our community’s needs,” said Alderman Mayfield. “Spring break should be a time of enrichment, not a time of struggle for families. This event allows us to give back, ensuring that children have access to books and healthy meals.”
This initiative is made possible through partnerships with the United Way of West Central Mississippi and the Warren County Public Library, who have generously contributed resources to make this event a success. There are still opportunities to donate food to this project or volunteer to serve food or mentor local students. All financial contributions should be made to the United Way of West Central Mississippi to be earmarked “Spring Break Read and Feed.”
