officer-involved shooting death

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones updated the community on the officer-involved shooting death in Vicksburg yesterday.

Jones started with an event on November 29 that led to yesterday’s officer-involved shooting death.

Here is the transcript of the Vicksburg Daily News live report of what Chief Jones shared with the community:

“On November 29th, officers initially responded to a call for service in reference to a burglary that took place. Once the officer arrived in the area, shots were fired into the officers vehicle. A short time later other officers arrived and ensued a chase with that vehicle. Later they were able to get some evidence to identify the people that were involved. We were later able to make an arrest on one particular subject who is 17-years-old. He had his initial appearance today in County Court. We went yesterday to execute a warrant on the other subject who was involved. Once the officers arrived a gun was displayed. Officers took action and unfortunately it ended with that persons life being ended. We are definitely sending condolences to that person’s family as well as the Vicksburg Police Officers. There have been some threats that have been made to the police officer. We take those things serious. I would just ask the public to be mindful and patient and let this investigation take place so that they will later know the outcome of what took place. But at this time the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is actively working this case, not the Vicksburg Police Department. So if there are any questions they will have to be asked to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations Office.”

Jones officially tied yesterday’s officer-involved shooting death to a squad car being shot on November 29.
