Hilton Gordon Celebrates 85th at the Today Show
NEW YORK CITY, NY – Hilton Gordon of Vicksburg celebrated her 85th birthday in New York City outside the “Today Show” this morning. Gordon, along with her daughter, Robyn Gordon, and Robyn’s niece, Prentiss Parker-Pringle were featured on the show.
Crowds gather outside the “Today Show” in New York City to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, holding signs and waving as cameras pan over the plaza. Fans from across the country travel to be featured on the popular morning program, hoping for a shout-out from the hosts. The tradition, a staple of the show, allows viewers to mark special occasions with live recognition in front of millions of viewers.
Robyn Gordon, Hilton Gordon’s daughter, arranged for the surprise. Robyn said that her mother didn’t want to do anything special for her birthday this year, but she always makes sure to celebrate her mother’s milestones. She said that she had told her mother months in advance, but until today it hadn’t really sunk in.
“This morning it really hit, when we actually got there,” said Robyn, “She was like ‘I’m going to be on the Today Show!'”
After the filming was over, they went to the nearby Starbucks, and Hilton was recognized by patrons and staff, putting her in official celebrity status. They also plan to visit Grand Central Station and a few other surprises are in store.
“It’s a blessing for her to have 85 years. My mom is a very vibrant person, she works out three times a week and is involved in activities in Vicksburg,” said the daughter, “She’s an all around great person. When you see that smile, that’s her. She smiles in her sleep.”
