James and Hall signed collegiate basketball scholarships on Tuesday

Vicksburg High School basketball players Kierra James and Rodrianna Hall signed collegiate scholarships on Tuesday to further their playing careers.
Kierra James:
After much debate, James decided that Mississippi Delta Community College would be the best fit for her future.
“They have a great environment there and I felt right at home when I went for a visit,” James said.“The Coach was also very supportive of me so that made the decision easier.”
Since being introduced to basketball in the seventh grade, James excelled on the court, developing a deep passion for the game.
Her talent and dedication became evident in junior high school, where her skills blossomed, setting the stage for a promising high school career. Under the guidance of VHS Head
Coach Troy Stewart, James emerged as a key player for the Missy Gators’ team by her junior year.
James played a pivotal role in helping VHS achieve significant milestones, including clinching four consecutive district championships. One of her most cherished moments was leading the team to a 53-44 victory over Callaway, securing the district title in 2023 with a 20-point performance.
By her senior year, James had solidified her position as the team’s star player, earning All-County and All-District accolades for her impressive average of over 13 points per game.
“I played up since seventh grade and this year was the first time I played with my class so I had no choice but to be a leader and it was a challenge,” James added.
Her leadership propelled VHS into the playoffs once again, drawing attention from many throughout the season. Ultimately, James opted to commit to Mississippi Delta over other schools such as Coahoma, Hinds and Co-Lin CC.
“I’m nervous but excited,” James said.“I’m definitely ready because I plan to go further and eventually play at a four-year school.”
Acknowledging the hard work and support that contributed to her success, James expressed gratitude to all who helped her along the way.
“I want to thank DeAndre King and my mom for sticking by me,”she said.“I also want to give a shoutout to my coaches, my family and my basketball sisters.”
Kierra plans to major in athletic training and become a basketball coach.
Rodrianna Hall:
Hall stepped up as a senior on the team and quickly earned herself a scholarship to Hinds Community College where she graciously signed on Tuesday.
“They were the first team that gave me an opportunity that I never thought I would get,” Hall said. “I went to one of their games and I like the way they played but it also felt like a family there so that’s where I want to be.”
Starting her basketball experience in seventh grade as well, Hall has also been a part of the Missy Gators’ program that has experienced much success. Her spotlight truly began as a senior under Coach Stewart where she showed her real talents.
Hall showed significant improvements in her game during her senior year where she averaged nine points per game and received All-County honors.
“I made a big switch this year when I moved from shooting guard to point guard but I did it before in ninth grade and the other girls stepped up as well which is what made me better as as a player,” Hall added.
Hall had plenty of memories to mention but the one that stood out the most was when she scored a career-high of over 20 points on senior night against Neshoba Central.
“It was something that should’ve already happened but I’m glad I was able to show everyone what I can do,”’she added.
Like James, Hall thanked those that stood beside her during her basketball journey.
“I want to thank my mom and every coach whoever coached me because they believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself,” Hall said.
