Missy Gators claim regional title on Monday

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg High School girls’ track & field team clinched a regional title on Monday. The Missy Gators came out on top with a total of 161 points and Warren Central High School was just behind them as they finished with 158. WC boys came in third place at the meet with 117 points and VHS came in fourth with 83. 

  • Amiyah Hall 1st place in the 200m(24.35) and second place in the 100m(12.20).
  • McKenzie Edmond- 1st place in the high jump(5’0).
  • Zion Knox took the crown in the triple jump(36-06) and the long jump(16-10). Nakia Jeffers(34-09.50) and Aaniyah Kelly(31-07.50) finished in third and fourth place in the triple jump and long jump.
  • Kennedy Williams-1st place in Discus(105-06).
  • Cedrionna Blackmore-Second place in the shot put(33-00). Jamiya Steward came in fourth. 
  • Xhiareia Darensburg finished the 300m hurdles in third place(50.20)
  • Raylyn Parson- 2nd place in 400m(1:03.05).
  • Alliedanyel Smith-4th place in the 1600m(6:55.00).
  • VHS also came in first place in three relays. Stewart, Hall, Jeffers, and Simpson dominated in the 4×100(50.64). Parson, Nabors, Blackmore, and Brinner brought home a blue ribbon in the 4×200 relay(1:47.26). Kelly, Matthews, Taylor, and Edmond won the 4×400(4:26.61).

Multiple VHS boys also placed at the regional meet. 

  • Marquise Knight- 1st place in the triple jump(43-05.50) and second place in the long jump(20-09.50).
  • Karter Thomas-1st place in the shot put(42-10.00).
  • Jayden Woods came in second in Discus(136-01) and third in the shot put(42-05.00). 
  • Shaun Archer came in third place in Discus and Thomas McKnight came in third in the long jump.
  • Corbin Walker-Fourth place in the 400m(51.91).

The Gators came in third place in the 4x200m relay(Warfield, Walker, Taylor, and McKnight). Stewart, Nash, Taylor, and McKnight came in fourth place in the 4x100m relay.

WC Girls(2nd place):

  • Adria Burrell captured wins in the 100m(12.15), 400m(59.45), and the 200m(25.05). She also came in second place in the 200m.
  • Madison Ward-1st place in the 100m hurdles(16.28). She also finished second in the long jump and triple jump.
  • Mere Smith-2nd place in the 300m hurdles(49.61) and fourth place in the 400m hurdles.
  • Kayla Parson-Second place in the 800m(2:46.49).
  • Cora Lindsay won the 1600m(6:19.74) and third in the 800m. 
  • Abigail DeJesus-Second place in the 3200(15:36.69).
  • Arrionna Jenkins- 1st place in the shot put(34-03.00) and second in Discus.
  • Marissa Stewart-Third place in Discus and shot put.

Malone, Henderson, Chambers, and Ward led the 4x100m relay to a second-place finish(51.00). Smith, Lindsay, Anderson, and Parson were third in the 4×800. Malone, Chambers, Ward, and Henderson finished fourth in the 4×200.

WC Boys:

  • Dwight Palmer won first place medals in the 100m(10.91), 200m(21.43), and the 400m(49.00). 
  • Javid Scott-third place in the 200m(22.53).
  • Chester Savage-1st place in the 300m(41.35).
  • Rohan Caples-Fourth place in the 800m(2:12.44).
  • Larry Reynolds-4th place in discus(118-09).
  • Ricky Neal Jr. places in the long jump(2103.25) and second place in the triple jump.
  • Gavin Davenport came in second in the shot put(42-06.00).

Green, Lumpkin, Savage, and Scott all helped WC finish second in the 4×200(1:31.01). Caples, Wright, Savage, and Artman finished second in the 4×400(3:37.18).
